Sex Therapy

In adopting a patently false but stubbornly clung-to mythology of human sexuality that makes demons out of natural drives, we’ve entered a stage of moral sickness, not of moral health

Many people ask me “What does a Sex Therapist do?” or “How does sex therapy differ from couple or individual therapy?” Sex therapy is a specialization within the counseling field focused on addressing sexuality concerns. While a psychologist, social worker, or marriage and family therapist may help couples talk about sex, a sex therapist undergoes extensive training to become an expert in all matters related to human sexuality. A sex therapist can help clients with a wide variety of problems.

Common themes folks look to discuss are:

  • desire differences between partners
  • sex and aging
  • orgasm and arousal difficulties
  • sex and disability/chronic illness
  • sexual compulsion or no sexual desire
  • fetishes or kink
  • painful intercourse
  • exploring sexual fantasies and desires
  • You want support around coming out- sexual and gender orientation, kinky, poly/non-monogamous
  • reclaiming your sexual power after a trauma
  • enhancing sexual satisfaction

How I Do Sex Therapy

As a sex therapist I don’t just tackle issues related to sexual “dysfunction”, but I can also help you process sexual feelings, learn to celebrate hidden fantasies, explore BDSM/Kink in your relationship or even facilitate discussions about how non-monogamy can expand your relationships. I take a sex positive approach to our work together, so you will never feel ashamed or shunned for the questions or concerns you bring to me.

Therapy is confidential in and of itself, but given the stigma around sex and sexuality I feel compelled to emphasize everything we discuss will remain confidential!

Who Gets Sex Therapy?

Sometimes people want to talk about experiences around sexual or gender orientation. Sometimes they want to learn more about supporting a loved one who is transitioning or has recently come out. Sex therapy can include individuals, couples, triads+, families, friends and so much more!
